British American Tobacco has an exciting opportunity for an Area Manager to join our team in the Ivory Coast.

As an area manager you’ll develop the trade marketing plan for your area and put it into practice to meet market share, brand, distribution, volume and profit targets for each trade channel and account. Principal accountabilities :
Business :

  • Develop and implement a trade coverage plan for the area ;
  • Develop and implement an area operational plan in line with the regional operational plan.

Work closely with the TMDM to adapt trade programmes developed by the Business Development Manager to the area’s reality ;

  • Participate in the 3-month demand planning developed by the TMDM, providing data for respective region ;
  • Drive implementation of cycle plans instructions to meet the company’s objectives and reflect the needs and priorities of distribution channels, agree work programme and route plans with TMR’s to reflect cycle and brand priorities.
  • Drive the implementation of KCC across functions to minimise level of business risk to the company.
  • Ensure that objectives in terms of availability, visibility, volume, margin, quality (e.g., RQI) and customer price of products are achieved for the area
  • Ensure that internal control procedures are followed in relation to the identification and resolution of cash and stock shortage discrepancies
  • Manage legal, insurance and cash collection issues ensuring that contracts and procedures are written and negotiated in line with company procedures and legal requirements, minimising commercial risks
  • Manage budget for trade programmes for the area
  • Manage the productivity & cost optimisation of the area (trade spend effectiveness in the area)
  • Propose goals and key performance indicators for the programmes implemented in the area and track ongoing results
  • Conduct ad hoc researches through retail audit, pack count or stick census. Collate and analyse data from trade TMRs reports and research reports to understand, trends and market dynamics for informed decisions.
  • Manage Area equipment and material to ensure the maximisation of asset usage.
  • Coordinate implementation of brand and trade programmes in the area, quickly reacting against competitive threats if necessary

Provide guidelines to the Trade Marketing Representatives regarding retail planogram and merchandising materials :

  • Consolidate data gathered by area team to ensure the Market Manager is fully informed at all times
  • Engage local government officials, transport/ traffic agencies and other stakeholders to avoid disruption of BAT operations in the territory
  • Generate/ gather ideas from customers and consumers in order to enhance and customise trade programmes.


  • Manage, train, inform and motivate the Trade Marketing Representatives in order to deliver trade marketing and distribution activities that are superior to the competition in respect of both core and added value services
  • Ensure that area team and trade partners are well trained and aligned with BAT’s International Marketing Principles and all corporate guidelines
  • Ensure that area team is well trained on BAT systems
  • Implement agreed talent plans for own team to ensure delivery against marketing talent strategy and targets
  • Propose goals and key performance indicators for direct reports and track ongoing results
  • Update and keep employees fully informed at all times of new developments, drive communication from one another to all, highlight trends, achievements, competitor’s activity etc to allow for opportunities and weaknesses to be addressed in good time through adequate planning.
Profil recherché pour le poste : Area Manager

Experience :

  • Ideally, not less than 4 years' experience in tobacco or a similar FMCG category.

You’ll also have a strong analytical approach, with the ability to provide strategic direction and make decisions and excellent organisational and planning skills.
Naturally, you’ll be a good communicator in both English and the local language to your area and will be open and accessible to your team. Ideally you’ll be a graduate in Business Administration.
