Project Background :

  • The Maternal and Newborn Child health project was commissioned by the B. Braun leadership as part of the company's strong commitment to supporting improvement of health outcomes in Africa and contributing to achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, SDG #3 targets on Good Health and well-being. B. Braun is committed to working with like-minded partners in the healthcare, policy and development spaces to support safe childbearing for mothers and contribute to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality rates.

Objective of the assignment :

  • To support B. Braun in conducting research on the current situation on Maternal and Newborn Child health in Cote d’Ivoire and to give proposals on potential intervention areas for B. Braun.

 

Profil recherché pour le poste : Consultant : Maternal and Newborn Child Health

Consultant's Profile :

We are looking for an expert from the field of reproductive health who fits the profile below :

  • Is an obstetrician-gynaecologist, obstetric nurse or holds a postgraduate degree in Public Health, Reproductive Health, or Social Sciences.
  • Has 3 - 5 years‘ work experience in MNCH in an African country, preferably in Cote d‘lvoire.
  • Is familiar with global reproductive, maternal, Newborn and Child health related frameworks, guidelines and initiatives.
  • Has previous programmatic and/or research experience in related fields.
  • Has excellent organizational and communication skills including professional fluency in English and in French. Fluency in other local languages is an added advantage.
  • Has strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills and attention to detail.
  • Can build relationships and collaborate effectively with teams across multiple locations and with varied areas of technical expertise.
  • Is a serious candidate interested in a possible long-term relationship beyond the consultancy period.

Project Scope :

The     research      will     address      the     following questions :

  • What are the current Maternal and Newborn mortality rates in the country?
  • What are the major issues that contribute to the Maternal and Newborn mortality rates in the country?
  • What are the common treatments / procedures in obstetric care?
  • How is the situation for prenatal cared
  • Which geographical locations and demographics are most affected?
  • Where do most of the births take place in the different regions in the country? If not in hospital, why aren't women coming to the hospital?
  • Which projects are already ongoing, and which organizations are running these projects?
  • What is the government doing to reduce Maternal and Newborn deaths? What is the long-term government plan and what are the indicators?
  • What are some potential solutions that can solve the existing problems? (Therapies, service care, etc)
  • What digital solutions are possible? Have any innovative digital solutions been implemented, and what has been their impact?

Project Duration :

  • The consultancy will last for a period of 3 months from the commencement date to the presentation of results. This period may extend subject to acceptance of the final submission.

Project Deliverables :

  • An inception report that includes the background, methodology, and data collection tools that will be used in the research.
  • Bi-weekly update reports on project progress, submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format. A follow-up call may be planned after submission of the bi-weekly report for clarification /aIignment with the B. Braun team.
  • A final written report submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format.
  • A PowerPoint presentation summarizing the research findings, presented to the B. Braun team in a virtual meeting.
  • Modifications to the report to include feedback shared during presentation of the research findings. Further meetings may be organized to present these changes or feedback requested from the consultant, until the final research handover is done.
